Leading up to Hue Festival 2012

Hue Festival 2012 with the theme “Cultural heritage with integration and development – rendezvous of historic cities” will take place from 7 to 15 April, 2012. This event attaches to National Tourism Year 2012 organized by Thua Thien – Hue Province to build Hue as Festival City and affirm Thua Thien – Hue is one of Viet Nam’s culture and tourism centers.

Currently, 23 art troupes from 13 countries and territories have registered to attend the Hue Festival 2012, including France, England, Denmark, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Israel, India, Mexico, United States, Philippines, Russia, South Africa. The domestic art troupes are also preparing actively and choosing special acts for festival.

Besides art programs and traditional festivals such as “Royal night”, “Oriental night”, “Huong River legend”, ao dai (long dress) festival, imperial palace festival, Nam Giao ceremony, space for honouring traditional trade villages, tour to explore beauty of Hue ancient capital…, the Hue Festival 2012 will have some new programs including historical film days, festival of drum and percussion instruments named “Resounding Viet Nam’s spirit”, festival to celebrate the 325th year Lord Nguyen Phuc Thai chose Phu Xuan as capital of South Viet Nam (1687 – 2012)… Of which, “The peaceful world” program will be staged according to stage form and royal art performance to honour Hue cultural heritage values.

Art and culture activities of some international troupes at the Hue Festival 2012 will attach to the project named “East Asia – Latin America cultural exchange through Hue Festival” of Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Member countries of the Forum for East Asia – Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC) have supported this project and appointed art troupes to attend the festival. In addition, the 13th convention of Union of Historic Cities including nearly 80 cities of 50 countries will be also held in Hue City during the Hue Festival 2012.

In order to prepare for the Hue Festival 2012, People’s Committee of Thua Thien – Hue Province established organizing board and specialized subcommittees to complete promptly entire project and script for programs of the festival. In addition, festival promotion and advertisement have been also carrying out.

In 2012, Thua Thien – Hue Province will expect to welcome over 2 millions visitors, of which there will be about 900,000 international visitors, total of tourism turnover will reach over VND2,200 billions.
